Astra Image Wavelet Sharpening Examples

Wavelet Sharpening - PlanetsWavelet sharpening can sharpen different frequency bands in an image. This means you can sharpen the frequencies you want, such as medium to large scale detail, and leave noise and compression artefacts unsharpened. On the left, you can see an original, unprocessed image. |

With wavelet sharpening, you can choose to sharpen only certain
frequency bands. This means you can sharpen the detail you want,
but leave other things like noise and compression artefacts unchanged. This image has been processed in Astra Image 3.0 using wavelet sharpening. It is much sharper and the compression artefacts are not obvious. |

Wavelet Sharpening - MoonWavelet sharpening works with all kinds of images. To the left is an unprocessed view of the moon. |

After processing with wavelet sharpening in Astra Image 3.0, a lot more detail is visible. This image was processed on four frequency bands. |

Color Balance and ArtefactsIn many image processing application, when an image is sharpened the color balance is changed. In addition, the sharpening process in these applications can produce distracting color artefacts.Note the color artefacts in the image on the left. This is an example of poor sharpening, with many color artefacts. |

Now note the left image. It has been sharpened in Astra Image 3.0. There are no artefacts and the color balance has been preserved. |
