Technical Questions

What data types are supported in Astra Image?
You can view data in almost any format, from 1-bit to 48-bit color and 16-bit to 32-bit grayscale.  For processing images, Astra Image supports 24-bit and 48-bit color images as well as 16-bit integer and 32-bit floating-point grayscale images.

Does the 3D visualization support hardware acceleration?
Yes.  If you have the correct drivers installed for your video card, hardware acceleration will be used.

Does Astra Image support multi-core processors?
Astra Image makes use of threads, so you will notice some benefit if you use a multi-core processor.

What is a point-spread function (PSF)?
A PSF specifies the kind of error contained in an image.  For example, atmospheric turbulence blurs images with a Gaussian function and optical errors (like focus) blur images with an exponential function.  So by defining a PSF, the error can be estimated and removed producing a sharper image.

Does Astra Image open and save FITS files?
Yes.  Astra Image can open and save 16-bit integer and 32-bit floating-point FITS files.  You can also view the FITS header in Astra Image.

When I do deconvolution, my image start to look strange. Why?
This is usually because the PSF is wrong.  Try using a PSF with a lower value for the curve width.  Also, try running fewer iterations.
